Spartan Super at Klang

Posted: 21 March, 2016 in The Journey

this is the toughest obstacle race for me to date, while the obstacles are as expected and i have train for a few of them, it was the course which was murderous. the trails and path are harsh.

Spartan-Race-20032016-001a

two down and one more to go to complete it…

on the 20th March 2016, i went to Canary Klang to participate what i consider the hardest obstacle race to date, its hard i feel is because of the trail & path and heck a LOT of jumping.

there is a lot of walls and it was challenging. low wall and high wall.

the path is covered by flatten grass and its not even, there are booby traps holes so running through it takes a lot of effort. so it takes even more endurance on the legs to get through it.

a lot of JUMPING! across drains and pitches. i roughly counted at least more than 10 jumps with the smallest being 6 feet apart and there are some as long as 10 feet jumps and many of those are of various height differentiation. it WILL take a heavy toll on your calves and it certainly did mine.

because after the final fire jump at the  end, i suffered a severe right calve cramp like ten steps from the finishing line and i drag myself across it with the cheers and help of other Spartanians and spectators.

among all the 20+ obstacles, i failed two so i did 30 burpees x 2. but miraculously, i manage to impale the board with the spear!

it was a good race…
now i look forward and fear the final one… SPARTAN BEAST

Anytime Fitness Puchong Review

Posted: 17 December, 2015 in The Journey

i went there under KFit for its gym access yesterday. it is generally a nice place to workout.

this is the first time i use this machine. i started with zero load and an increment of 40kgs after 10 rep each. at 160kgs i can still manage to do 10 rep which i surprised myself there but only 3 rep for 200kgs (10 plates of 20kgs).

anytimefitnesspuchong-squatmachine-01

some interesting thing i note is that there is vanity room? hahahaha… i think they are just changing rooms but with a large mirror.

what is nice…
– incredible shower booth, very big, awesome rain shower, hot water enough to make it a steam sauna (a good thing)
– huge main studio. one among the biggest so far i seen.
– located in a place where parking is plentiful.
– free weights are well maintained and stock and well spaced.
– plentiful of treadmills.
– average numbers of assisted weights machines.
– friendly staff.
– equipment’s seem to be well taken care of.
– McDonald is just next door. hahaha…

what that is lacking…
– no sauna.
– lockers are not in the mens bathroom and the lockers are particular small in size, if you have a big bag, you might want to pay attention to this bit.
– more classes & variety would really be good.
– limited number of shower booth/room.

overall it is a very nice place to workout. i am looking forward to go there to try one of its classes in the large main studio.

My Impression of KFit

Posted: 13 November, 2015 in The Journey

what is KFit?
KFit is a monthly membership to hundreds of gyms, fitness studios and activities in your city, allowing you to try a new location every day. Download our mobile app to access a huge variety of activities and classes, from yoga to boot camp to martial arts and much more.” – from KFIT.COM

Based on my research it is a membership that allows access to a lot of gyms, fitness studios, yoga studios, dance studios, open air workouts and fun activities, BUT there is a limit of visit for these outlets. just for example, Chi Fitness allows three visit per month for all its outlets means three visit to any Chi Fitness and you have to wait for your next membership renew date to get the quota again. some may find these restrictions limit not so good especially for gym goers who goes to gym 4-5 times a week and doesn’t want to differ from his/her usual gym.

Reservation is done though a mobile app or through browser and the latest is one day beforehand. It is IMPORTANT, that you have to plan our your visit at least one day before hand and LATE CANCELLATION actually impose charges of rm20 so your scheduling if pretty important. if you are prone to last minute changes of plan due to work or lifestyle, then this is really not for you. different partners have different late cancellation dateline so you have to be careful on that.

Kfit-Booking

in my own opinion,
i feel this is quite good based on that there are multiple options as i go through its partners, there are martial arts classes to multiple gym studios and as well as activity outlets such as District21, Archery Activities, Jumpstreet, and Climbing Studios. most of the gyms are three visit per month so as i visit a gym about three times a week, this makes me have to adjust accordingly or use a few different gym in a week.

i sign up KFit on 11.11.2013 with the groupon promotion of rm199 for three months, that is roughly around rm66 per month. its normal ALL ACCCESS membership is currently at rm99 per month. you will need a credit card though as membership is monthly auto billed.

they have two membership system:
All ACCESS – paid monthly and get all access to all partners.
BASIC MEMBERSHIP – its free but you get one activity on some of its partners.

a few things you should really note though, your renew date is on the date that you paid for “all access”, this is important because of the limits of visit per outlet and when it is renew.

here to view KFit partners in Kuala Lumpur: https://access.kfit.com/partners?city=kuala-lumpur
here are some of the partners (other than gyms) in the picture below.

Kfit-Partners

Pros:
– variety of activities than just gym workouts.
– many gyms to choose from as well and all over KL.
– a change of scenery if one doesn’t like routine too much.
– doesn’t cost a bomb, regular gym memberships are usually rm140+
– you get to experience a sort of activity, and if you like it a lot, you can fully commit to it.
– fluid signed into the partners and no complications.

Cons:
– have to book at least a day earlier, planning is crucial.
– no last minute “i feel fat today and feel like going gym tonight”.
– last minute / late cancellation charges.
– limited visits per partner, usually three per month.

i just did my first reservation at Chi Fitness today so will be looking forward to it…

so far i visited:
– Chi Fitness C180 Balakong
– Chi Fitness Ikon Cheras
– Celebrity Fitness Main Place Subang
– Fysio Fitness Cheras
– Mad Monkeyz Climbing Gym
– Anytime Fitness Puchong
– Anytime Fitness Ampang
– Kakigym Kajang
– SA Fitness Cheras

late update: 07.01.2015

28.12.2015
some of the activities are pretty limited when its near public holidays or school holidays. but still plentiful to choose from.

07.01.2016
there is a daily schedule on the its app which is not bad at all. can actually do some last minute activity on the same day but you really have to book in the morning.

well,
since i stop CF last month and i still got my fitness regime need to maintain to achieve my goal which is my three year mark is coming soon. so i decided to sign up for a one month just to test out this gym. the 6 months and 12 months fees are quite alluring and reasonable considering their facilities and activities which i will describe later below. but the 1 month is quite hefty though at a price of rm159 nett.

fysio-fitness-page

i decided to choose this gym and have a try because:
– group fitness classes and variety.
– there is sauna.
– well stock weights equipment.
– nearby to my house.
– best choice among most many that is nearby.

Pros:
– well equipped free weights area and assisted machines are above average in quantity.
– large workout area (free weights / functional workout area / a running zone ).
– big main studio hall so classes are hard to be over crowded.
– friendly staff.
– got sauna!
– variety of classes for all levels.

Cons:
– at times, main studio is hot especially for high intensity classes.
– no personal locker for valuables at main area.
– main studio a bit dark.

Last Day at Celebrity Fitness

Posted: 31 October, 2015 in The Journey

today is the last day of my membership at Celebrity Fitness and i went to workout on the evening as well.

the reason i decided to cancel my membership is because the fees was considerably high for me and even new members are getting offer a lot less than me. i couldn’t blame CF for this cause i did sign up more than 2 years ago and was with combo under family package. it just that my member decided to stop earlier than me.

my time at CF was enjoyable especially the classes and meeting fitness oriented people, instructors, class participants, and even made quite some many new friends.

so currently actively looking for nearby gym with classes and sauna facilities and a moderate amount of weights or at least acceptable equipment. who knows what the future holds, might even join back CF if they offer a great deal… hehehehe

eating clean is hard

Posted: 19 September, 2015 in The Journey

in this country of food, eating clean is hard…

but to get that V and Packs on the Tummy, you are looking at clean diet. many people mistake that diet means eating less, actually its about eating right. here are just some examples:
– no fried food.
– minimize processed food.
– correct amount of carbs.

i feel that one most important aspect of weight loss is dinner time where most people will be resting and heavy dinner or supper will mean carrying those excess calories to bed.

this is my supper…

some very small mix cereal & oats from three types of products just to add to the crunchiness and low fat milk. i sometimes rotate between dutch lady fresh milk to farm fresh low fat milk.

C360_2015-01-30-22-33-55-880

milk is alkaline and i use it to suppress the acid in my stomach. it works around 2 hours but by then i am usually asleep.

Broga Hill

Posted: 30 August, 2015 in The Journey

Broga Hill is one among those rare hill that i really like to climb. it is easy or can be hard in whichever way you choose. one of the nice part is once you reach the clearing, it is a very open hill that will broaden your sights and mind and a good place to have a picnic too if wish for.
