Underarmour Gloves

new gloves from Underarmour!
the Men’s UA Flux Half-Finger Training Gloves which cost me rm99.00
http://www.underarmour.com.my/en-my/mens-ua-flux-half-finger-training-gloves/1253694.html?dwvar_1253694_color=001#q=Gloves

From the website:
– HeatGearĀ® fabric wicks sweat to keep your hand cool & dry
– UA Power Strap gives extra wrist support
– Strategically placed silicone on palm for extra grip & durability
– Perforations in palms increase breathability
– Terry cloth thumb panel to wipe away sweat
– Neoprene cuff
– Polyester/Elastane

don’t have much a choice, my high grip gloves are deteriorating since after two vipers challenge and almost 3-4 years in services from extreme sports to gym workouts. comes in four sizes and i got my size tried which is MD. i like this particular gloves due to grip and half finger though i am also actively looking for full finger gloves with very good grip.

will give new review after using it for a week.

SkyWarrior Challenge

Posted: 25 July, 2015 in The Journey

on a fateful Saturday much just like today…
me and my team which has sign up for the Spartan Race which is set for 10.10.2015 decided to test our abilities.

we found out about the SkyWarriors Rainforest Challenge at Putrajaya Precinct 2 about a few months ago and it was a little like the obstacles in America Ninja just that its a lot easier. definitely not a lot easier in our sense when we did tried it.

SkyRidePark-Putrajaya-18072015-00 SkyRidePark-Putrajaya-18072015-01

there were eight obstacles in total. two were newly added in July 2015 which seriously strain the upper body, they were obstacles two and three.

first obstacles was easy, jumping across five non-bouncy pads, i really thought they were bouncy. we drop in the water mostly at obstacles number two and three. the boss was kind enough to let us bypass some obstacles so that we can try the others in front but of course to be fair, no timer will initiate. obstacles four and five were pretty easy or acceptable to get through. i couldn’t get through obstacle number six which was swinging through ropes to get to the other side and my arms strength was already failing. obstacles two required to traverse by gripping on tennis ball size knobs and it is slightly inclined. obstacle three is two sets of monkey bars, going up, cross over and then come down.

SkyRidePark-Putrajaya-18072015-02 SkyRidePark-Putrajaya-18072015-03

once we realize how far we need to train, we vow to come back in a month time to redo it again. a challenge for our own self and a benchmark of our abilities in functional fitness before the Spartan Race. its rm20 for unlimited tries but i think most people would have given three tries at most before calling it a day. you need to go to a booth nearby and sign up a form individually. you are allowed to wear shoes or not and it is up to you.

there were foods and drink stalls nearby so not a bad place to hangout actually plus whoever wants, can always ride the hot air balloon nearby. if you plan to go in the early morning, i suggest you better PM them on their facebook to double check, last time i did, we started at 1pm despite it says open at 10am.

My Viper Challenge 2015

Posted: 16 March, 2015 in The Journey

if Viper Challenge 2014 was muddy…
then Viper Challenge 2015 March was muddy & watery. its wet, and very wet, and very muddy, more so than last November Viper Challenge. The obstacles were tougher too.

Pre Viper Challenge 2015 Preparation:
my preparation for viper, nothing here can prepare what i was about to face in March 2015.
Viper Challenge 2015 March PrePrep

Reaching There & Registration:
my start time is 7:15am, supposedly to register 2hrs before but i arrived at 5:45am. the place is already flooded with people. the counter for teams is a lot of people while people registering under “individual” doesn’t have many people.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Registration

after done registering and going to toilet, make sure you go toilet first cause there is always a ridiculous long long queue for it. after that, i head to the luggage area to store my bag. if i had a choice, i wouldn’t use it cause claiming for luggage later is a big big hassle. should you really have to use their luggage storage service, try to get a bag that is bright & easy recognizable.
C360_2015-03-14-06-37-08-609

its 7:10am and almost my group starting time. i got the red band from registration as my indication of my starting group. there is a 5ft wall you need to cross before reaching the start zone. i guess its sort of like an initiation obstacle & also a chance to learn how to cross safely if one never do one before.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Before Start

you have to forgive me for some of the quality of the images, as there was so much muddy pools that my Sony Z1 lens was covered so badly and i don’t have much fresh clean water to clean the lens at many point during the course. i manage to take pic of every obstacle as i reach there so to tag my time.

Obstacles 01: 7:39am – Viper Slushy
ahhh… nothing like a dip into icy pool of water and go down under the water to cross a 15cm board and surface up. you be cold & wet even before the first kilometer.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 001
Completion: Success

Obstacles 02: 7:49am
jumping over the fire, this is really really easy. i was wet and i doubt the fire can burn or light up anything. last year there was a mud pool after the fire hehehe…
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 002
Completion: Success

Obstacles 03: 7:51am – Mud Walls
the first half of it was easy, thanks to my adidas shoes which has survive two viper challenge, i go up and come down easy. but some where in middle, they have water in one of the middle trench which makes climbing harder with everyone shoes carrying mud all over. last year didn’t have water in the middle.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 003
Completion: Success

Obstacles 04: 8:04am
Barb Wire, like last year this also one among the easy ones.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 004
Completion: Success

Obstacles 05: 8:10am – Spiderman Shuffle
i couldn’t get a grip on the wood somewhere in the middle and drop in the mud pool. last year i did so well i still couldn’t understand why. hmmmmm….
there were some contestants which were climbing the top to cross over, i don’t think you were suppose to do that way plus it was damn dangerous.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 005
Completion: Failed

i saw this sign was at that moment, it was very amusing. so i decided to take a picture of it.
C360_2015-03-14-07-52-58-571

Obstacles 06: 8:22am – Logs Walls
Logs, multiple logs position around waist high which requires you to climb over. this is another of those which is pretty easy. probably quite challenging for people who are of certain lower height.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 006
Completion: Success

Obstacles 07: 8:34am – Stairway to Heaven
its typically a climbing obstacle that you go top and crossover and come down. its alright as long you hold tight & go slow.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 007
Completion: Success

Obstacles 08: 8:48am – Dry Creek
its a mud path about 500m to 1000m. full of mud, hidden mud trap holes that plunge me knee deep if not careful. a lot of participants were trying to keep clean which i think its just hopeless. in the picture, i just walk through the center.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 008
Completion: Success

Obstacles 09: 9:12am – Mini Walls
there are five walls around the height of 6-7 feet that you need to cross over. this is one of those considerably easy.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 009
Completion: Success

people queuing up for water. it was a long long queue.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 009a

Obstacles 10: 9:23am
its like the barb wire obstacle but the threads are a lot lowered but with the water, it makes it pretty to just slide across.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 010
Completion: Success

Obstacles 11: 9:40am – Pipe Crawl
i crawl through the tube into a mud pool with netting above. so i just push the net as high and move forward to get to the opening. pretty easy obstacle.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 011
Completion: Success

Obstacles 12: 9:44am
i used to have trouble with this obstacle last year, as i have to put a leg on one of the support beam to help go up, but this year i can just jump, grab hold, pull myself over without much trouble.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 012
Completion: Success

Obstacles 13: 10:07am
this was in last year but with the difficult setting notch up. the first three hoops goes up and the last three goes down. i manage to get to the 2nd hoop and made three attempts to grab the third hoop which was a bit far. the third attempt my holding hand slip and i went into the pool. would love to give this try again as last year i manage to get across.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 013
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 013a
Completion: Failed

Obstacles 14: 10:21am
scaling down the hill with a rope, this is another easy obstacle.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 014
Completion: Success

Obstacles 15: 10:40am
like the mud trenches, this has only two but with waist high mud water which made everything muddy. didn’t i say so, muddy and watery viper this year hahahaha…
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 015
Completion: Success

Obstacles 16: 10:53am – Slippery Senorita
one of the most enjoying obstacle. first half is fairly slow as its not too slanted and you can actually stop too but after half of it, the angle start to slope pretty deep and you pick up a lot of speed. i didn’t sit too well & when i pick up speed, i was beginning to slide down horizontally slamming into the water. hahaha…
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 016
Completion: Success

Obstacles 17: 11:01am – Nerves of Steel
this obstacle is quite easy for me other than the fact that the metal wire was burning my feet as i slide across. i tried to lock the metal wire on my shoes so when i use my hand to pull, it would slide on my shoes but somehow it keep slide back to my upper ankle which cause me some injury, so by halfway, i decided to drop into the water before my skin bleed.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 017
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 017a
Completion: Failed

Obstacles 18: 11:14am – Rappeling Wall
last year this was alright as i manage to cross above but this year i didn’t. i couldn’t get strength to grip completely after three times trying to go up. Without strength on arms, even if i manage to go up, coming down would be very dangerous.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 018
Completion: Failed

Obstacles 19: 11:32am – Bad Plumbing
like the video in viper challenge fb page this was pretty easy, that is if you come out the right way at the end of the tube. i manage to follow the video way.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 019
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 019a
Completion: Success

Obstacles 20: 11:46am – Balance Beam
this was a LOT harder than it looks. first the beam is not balance, and it vibrates as well, not to mention the beam tilted a bit when i reach this obstacle. i manage to get to 40% of the way before going into the pool.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 020
Completion: Failed

Obstacles 21: 12:02pm – Define Gravity
unlike last year, this year was harder with after crossing over the top, you have to be very careful as a sharp downward slope. last year there was a small platform, this year if you cross over, you have to stand on the slope first. this obstacle is a lot easier with a team and as i went as individual, i tried a few times and decided no go.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 021
Completion: Failed

Obstacles 22: 12:29pm
there are barrels where the idea is to pass the barrel underwater. not a bad idea to wash off all the mud and dirt before the final obstacle.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 022
Completion: Success

a good refreshing water blast from the fireman, kudos to them to washing away the mud, dirt, and tiredness hahaha…
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 022a

Obstacles 23: 12:40pm – The Final Obstacle
after three attempts, i couldn’t run anymore as my left calves threaten to cramp so that its for me.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Obstacle 023
Completion: Failed

i cross the finish line roughly about 5hr and 50min. got myself a medal, certificate, and a dry fit tshirt. i still feel that the Nov 2014 tshirt was a lot nicer in design and color. hahaha… picky me.

courtesy of my friend Andrew who provided some of the pictures and map route we took.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Route

there is no toilet or any mobile cubicles from start till the end. if you really have to relieve yourself, for a female, i think that’s going to be a problem. so for the next viper challenge, best clear your bladder hahaha…

Post Viper Challenge 2015:
i came back around 3pm after a long drive, took a bath and like have to shampoo and soap almost three times. i saw my shoes and socks, i don’t even want to think about it.

my MiBand which i bring along for Viper Challenge recorded a new record, around 31,000 of steps. the distance also seem pretty accurate though. i use some wire strap to seal its lock in order to prevent from losing it during viper.

a day after my skin wounds begin to heal…
despite my friends telling to wear knee protector, i refuse, i just cannot run in those.
Viper Challenge 2015 March Post Hurt

it the end, i paid rm124 for tons of skin wound on my leg, a certificate, a medal, and one (M) size T-shirt, completed 16 obstacles and failed 7 ones.

is it worth it?
HELL YEAH!

will i do it again?
DEFINITELY!

more stuff to add soon…

New Gloves New Punches

Posted: 26 February, 2015 in The Journey

i had some fun with the punching bag at gym and it was addictive and definitely gets your heart pumping. so i decided to get a el’cheapo gloves that i can use for body combat class as well as some light use on the sand bag and join HitBack classes which seems like a light technical class on boxing. don’t really feel like bringing one gloves for combat and another just for the sandbag

i found this Lonsdale MMA Training Gloves, known as grappling gloves, at sportsdirect.com at IOI City Mall near Putrajaya selling for rm107. i was very interested in the Viper Impact Gloves but selling at rm200++, so decided to start with a cheaper one first. then later upgrade once i learn some technical skills and know what are my choices.

Lonsdale MMA training gloves

i seen online has so many other choices and damn! their ones look so beautifully design. here are some taken from this website: http://www.ultimatefightwear.co.uk/acatalog/mma_gloves.html

Mi Band : my way of fitness counting

Posted: 26 February, 2015 in The Journey

i gotten myself a Mi Band for the reason that i have always wanted a fitness tracker but the usual brands are too expensive. so this band costing rm59 is one of the best rm59 investment i ever made. i brought two from its official website http://www.mi.com/my/ , why two? cause buy two and its free delivery. so one is for my friend & the other for me.

my-miband-01

it is a simple pedometer i feel. although it says it track your steps, i am more inclined to consider that it tracks “activity” rather than “steps”.

my-miband-02

what i really like about the device:
– it is cheap.
– very nice interface and simple description in the app.
– waterproof.
– *added* mud proof, viper challenge proof.
– very long battery life, more than 30 days.
– tracks sleep pattern in a simple way.

cons:
– its hard to swing your hand and get a reading. much faster to load the app and check the stats.

Body Combat 1 hour class:
average around 6,000 steps

Hit Back 1 hour class:
average around 6,000 steps

normal days count:
between 3,500 – 5,500 steps

Update: 16.03.2015
Viper Challenge Proof added, the steps it counted in Viper Challenge March 2015 and it total around 31,000 steps. it manage to track quite accurately on the run/walk during viper challenge.

Imminent Viper Challenge Mar 2015

Posted: 12 February, 2015 in The Journey

The time is drawing closer and closer,
in less than a month time, this would be second time I would venture into this muddy encompass of trails and tracks, hills and ditch, unforgiving obstacles that stand between me and the twenty kilometers line that I need to cross with probably thousands of brave & dedicated souls that share my passion as well. Be it storming rain or scorching sun, the twenty kilometers and twenty obstacles hold strong and punishes harshly on those who tread upon it.

It is imminent, have no doubt, its very real…
Viper Challenge March 2015 is almost here.

and i will be there…

To spur the morale and excitement of the coming storm,
VC has release the 2014 VC Nov After Movie which is to say, its done with a pretty charismatic and cool sort of way. and somehow luckily, i was spotted on 1:01-1:03

Philips Air Fryer HD9220 Review

Posted: 4 February, 2015 in The Journey

i manage to accumulate enough credit card points to exchange for an air fryer that i been wanting to get for quite some time.

i found two easily available in malaysia that is the Tefal Actifry and Philips Air Fryer. read around and philips has more good reviews & comments than the other one. so decided to get the air fryer from Seng Heng with the vouchers i manage to exchange. the retailing price for the Philips Air Fryer HD9220 is around rm799 at the moment.

official product link:
http://www.philips.com.my/c-p/HD9220_20/viva-collection-airfryer-with-rapid-air-technology
Product dimensions (W x H x D) 287mm x 315mm x 384mm
Weight appliance: 7.0 kg

the black glossy philips air fryer made my kitchen look so “atas atas” feel. hahaha… the philips air fryer HD9220 is not too bulky, in comparison to a microwave oven except taller. at first, i thought the capacity 800g is too little but as i use it, i guess is just nice for 1-2 person cooking. the recipe book comes in two form, a thick small booklet and a thinner but longer booklet. some of the recipes are quite very interesting.

Philips-Air-Fryer-HD9220 (4)

the reason i have been wanting to get one of these is because:

1) it removes a portion of oil/fats from food. this is pretty important when you really want a clean diet yet not too much sacrifice on choices of food.

2) easy to cook food, especially for someone like me who has almost nil cooking experience. almost like plug & play. put in food, set temp and timer, and just go do other stuff.

3) clean to use, no oil vapors to make the kitchen floor oily, no splattering of oil when frying fish, you get the idea.

truthfully,
my main & only motivation to get one of these is so that, i come home, drop one or two chicken breast inside the air fryer straight from the fridge, and leave it for 15min. no hassle, no trouble, and protein with almost no fats. hahahaha… 10-13% body fat percentage? it always start with choices of food.

the one downside is the food tend to be a bit dry, expected but that doesn’t affect me much.

what i find as a minor annoyance is that there is no power button on the air fryer. if for some reason i have to stop it immediately, switching off power at the main plug is the only way.

cleaning is quite easy as well. the bottom tray that house the fan like pattern are quite easy to wash. must be some high quality non stick pan material. the mesh is slightly harder but if case like sticky fried skin, a dip in soapy waters for awhile will usually do the trick.

in my personal opinion, this air fryer, i would say good for people who don’t have time to cook like for example come home, drop a meat or two and some veggies and go bath or do some chores, moments later the food is ready. also maybe for small family like 2-3 people where small portion of food is sometimes harder to cook than larger portions. one can even put this in an office pantry and air fry food.

Nuggets straight from frozen form:
came out nice and crispy. they don’t feel very oily. this took about 10-15min. my family said yummylicious!
Philips-Air-Fryer-HD9220 (2)

the oil that came out from the 8pc nuggets. can you imagine if you deep fried it some more? the oil is scary.
Philips-Air-Fryer-HD9220 (3)

Fries straight from frozen form:
a bit dry but still crispy. same like the nuggets, they don’t feel oily as well. this took about 10-15min. you need to shake once or twice.
Philips-Air-Fryer-HD9220 (5)

the oil that comes out, a lot lesser than the 8pc nuggets.
Philips-Air-Fryer-HD9220 (6)

Whole Chicken Straight From Supermarket:
i am surprised it can fit!
this one took about 40min but it came out really nice, surprinsingly not too dry as well. i am glad it could fit inside the tray. you might need to poke a few holes so the heat can evenly goes inside as well. the oil that came out was more than three table spoons. scary… imagine if you deep dry the whole chicken.
Philips-Air-Fryer-HD9220 (7)

the chicken came out nicely, some of the skin got stick to the mesh though but expected. without marinating or extra oil, it taste surprisingly very very good.
Philips-Air-Fryer-HD9220 (1)

more to come…
will update in due time…

time for another new start…

Posted: 26 January, 2015 in The Journey

been gaining back weight, now i have float back to 80kgs for the past two months. i know what is the cause, its definitely my diet. time for selective healthy diet and calorie count. aiming to get back to 75kgs, hopefully before chinese new year. a short goal but a long journey.

my resolution for 2015,
be the lean mean pack machine!

tumblr_m7pwp6GEkR1qm8ap9o1_1280

and on a side note,
i love BodyCombat Track 62, its fun & seriously, a little less harder than Track 61. now Track 61 is a real killer.
